There are some incredibly, fascinating theories here, which is mind-blowing. However, there are some others that are just flat-out dumb, and probably made-up because of bias delusion – seeing what we want to see once we’re convinced that this is the message Kubrick is trying to tell us. It’s a great documentary but one that should be taken with a grain of salt.

Side by Side

  • 2012
  • Documentary
I respect traditional film but there are too many financial and production benefits to digital. All of the A-list directors that side with tape, have a nostalgic romance with it but they can also appreciate digital. Times are changing and those going against the grain will need to pay out of pocket to keep tradition going.

The next method of filming (I have no idea what) that can put digital out of business will then have the right to call digital “traditional” as well. It doesn’t matter what we/they consider traditional or even natural. It’s just pure progression and that, in itself, is the most natural thing.

I am not going to knock on the film-making; that was done well. It’s surprising to me that someone like Jonathan Blow, who is knee-deep in technology, did not build an immune system to digital haters and internet trolls. To hear him be very bothered by how people don’t fully understand his “art,” while making the successful game, Braid, makes me want to punch him in the face, with my car. This is our era! This is the era of the nerd, so there’s no reason to be insecure about your obvious talents. Listening to most of these fragile men whine about their overly eccentric selves is more than I can stand. Dear Joan Rivers, I love you. I do. I don't think that your lack of popularity has anything to do with your looks or your age. I truly believe it has to do with your on-going pity party, and how your productions are always about you.

You say that you're a serious actor, then why don't you try auditioning for roles rather than making little plays revolving around your life. Your jokes are still good, your attitude still rocks, but I genuinely think people are just tired of the same story that's now older than you are.
