Imagine that I give you a handful of beautiful Hallmark cards. Inside each of them are heart-melting poems about the human condition, cosmic connections, and love. As you start reading the first poem, I swipe it away and toss you another random one to read. I’ll rinse and repeat this for two hours and that is what Cloud Atlas is like.

Regardless if you can follow it or not, this film is a treat for the senses with its amazing visuals and epic story.

Sinister

The Bourne Legacy

Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner) did a fine job as the action star but this does not have the intensely smart style of the previous Bourne films. The top secret group hunting Cross resemble a call center during peak hours. It’s not a good reboot, but it’s a good action movie.

The Tall Man

Great on atmosphere, not so much on the sociological twist that happens mid-way through the film. The twist itself isn't bad and it will jerk some sympathy out of you, but nobody wanted it. Well, not nobody, maybe just the people that gave this a bad review and others that we're expecting something much more intense from the writer/director of Martyrs.

Denzel Washington plays his usual badass self, which is always a pleasure to watch. Opposite to that is Ryan Reynolds. I know what you're thinking, but give Reynolds a chance on this one. He doesn't accelerate the movie by any means and he definitely does not ruin it either. It's a smart, action thriller, and a good rent.

Beyond the Black Rainbow

This is not good, but I like it. I'm really into the nostalgic, Sci-fi style, and the retro score that compliments it so well. Some of the nightmare-ish scenes remind me of the psychedelic masterpiece, Pink Floyd: The Wall. If none of these things appeal to you, then it's best you stay very far away from this one or else you'll regret it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I really like the original Swedish movies. Really, they are awesome. So I mean no disrespect when I say that I like David Fincher's version more. His remake is not better by any means, I just think Fincher's seething dark style is perfect for the re-envisioning of this evil story.

The concept in the beginning is pretty cool but things start falling apart after the first half. This lacked genuine scares and the ending did not fit with the story. It tricks you into thinking it's a horror so I don't recommend this.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

This isn’t for everyone and if you’re expecting something like The Bourne Identity, then you’ll end up with “The Bored Identity.”

A well-written but boring British drama about politics, spies, and old geezers. The opening is upbeat and Jazzy, which has an opposite tone for the rest of the film. Interesting movie but this isn't something to marvel over and it requires quite a bit of patience.

The Thing

The thing about this is that it just magnifies on how gross the original was and it succeeds somewhat. The monster is absolutely disgusting, but it is CG. Beyond all of that, it's not a good film especially how they tried to throw in some origin about the monster. I knew I should have waited for the DVD but my urge to see a horror got the best of me.

Dude wakes up buried inside of a coffin. Dude freaks out and yells at everyone on his cell phone for not helping him fast enough. Bad things start happening, dude freaks out even more and starts doing dumb shit. I stop caring for dude and hopes that he dies so the movie can end.

Here it comes, I'm going to say the most common things about sequels – 'the first one is better.' This is very similar to the first but one thing it lacks (big time) is the creep-factor, which is the main thing that the first one did so well.

I had no idea that it revolved around an insanely-twisted rivalry between two magician friends that went completely off the deep end. I was also floored when I saw David Bowie as Nikola Tesla. It is a "good problem" when you miss a great movie, rediscover it, and purposely avoid watching trailers or reading reviews about it. You, simply, just watch it with a blank and pure mind. Phenomenal film.

This film had a very good build-up and the atmosphere created by Martin Scorsese is dark and reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock's. I especially like the music score and use of audio. The final plot twist was nothing spectacular compared to the rest of the film but don't let that discourage you from watching this.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus

Is this a great movie? No. Is it awful? No. I know this movie can be really confusing with a lot of dead weight and pointless twists. Most of the reasons is because, sadly, Heath Ledger died halfway through filming so they had to fill in a lot of holes. They filled those holes with cheap and overly-used graphics, which is cool on the surface but ultimately tarnished the film. It's not a bad film because it's bad, it's just unfortunate what happened behind off-camera.
