This doesn’t do anything new. More iron suits, new villains, and another psychological study of the gifted but troubled Tony Stark. But, that’s a good thing, because it’s still funny and explosively entertaining.

This is smart but not clever-smart – it’s weird-smart. It’s also perverted but not sexually. The film is a creative, yet a grotesque rendition of our twisted obsession with celebrities. It's kind of hard to watch and even harder to hold down. I like it.

Imagine that I give you a handful of beautiful Hallmark cards. Inside each of them are heart-melting poems about the human condition, cosmic connections, and love. As you start reading the first poem, I swipe it away and toss you another random one to read. I’ll rinse and repeat this for two hours and that is what Cloud Atlas is like.

Regardless if you can follow it or not, this film is a treat for the senses with its amazing visuals and epic story.

Another futuristic Sci-fi, set in a hustling metropolis, and it's about time travel. This might get ugly. I understand if you're apprehensive about this because of past films like Surrogates or Total Recall. Leave all that behind and go watch this. Story will always triumph over style or setting, and this story is good. Look forward to go see this so that you can look back and be glad that you did.

The best thing about the original was its charmingly ridiculous style. Looks like the producers didn’t care for that and wanted a more serious and sexier reboot. Does it work? Nope. It’s not smart nor clever enough to take the original’s crown, but it does have some cool, high-tech, Sci-fi stuff if you just want to see rad shit.

Really awesome premise. Gorgeous cinematography and visuals. But, if they’re going to do an artsy film that relies mostly on atmosphere, then it might be ideal to keep the dialog to a minimum. Because they went the opposite of that, it's not easy to recommend this. Take a bong rip and go watch the space opera scenes from Tree of Life instead.

I found myself laughing at full volume near the end. Screw the haters, here's a good example of a B-movie that isn’t trying to be anything else but silly and fun.

The first one was great and the second was utter crap. I had no expectations for this third sequel, especially when we find out that Will Smith is going back in time. A time travel story is very risky if not done right. With low expectations, I would have been content with just seeing those funny aliens again.

I did get my funny aliens and the human elements have also been dialed up. Smith and Brolin were fun to watch and they made a smart decision by not forcing a very old Tommy Lee Jones to play anything but a very old Tommy Lee Jones. Good fun!

People are thinking that this is going to be a direct prequel to Alien. The producers say it’s not completely meant to be but don’t fret because this is absolutely fine as its own stand-alone film. Prometheus is gorgeous right out of the gates, and the escalation of tension is gripping.

The horror aspects are tasteful as there are no cheap scares or unnecessary gore, but don’t dismiss that as tamed either. The story can be deep as many people will be coming up with interesting theories about that universe’s idea of faith, imortality, and the Alien mythos. Yes, there are some loopholes and you can poke holes in the script but not enough for a thumb's down.

Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress

  • 2009
  • Animation

Hey, I’m in the mood to watch a Japanimation and I loved Robotech as a kid so why not.

There are pop songs with lyrics such as “At my wink signal, dive into my chest. Pure heart, go and violate my exposed thighs...The limit is vague 1000%” (extra zero is not a typo). I wouldn’t normally poke fun at that because I’m sure it doesn’t translate over well but when the lyrics are shown on screen like karaoke, sung in broken english, and happening constantly – well, fuck them. As for characters, we have the male hero (who has the longest hair in the film) stuck in a love triangle with a woman and a girl who looks like she’s 10. The two girl's singing is also the key to defeating the alien invaders. There is a second movie in this series but I would rather chug bleach.

ULTRA HIGH SPEED ROMANTIC FOR YOU!
WE’LL ENJOY A DAY TODAY!

If you haven't heard by now how much fun this movie is or how it broke the $1 billion mark in its second week, it's all true and it delivers on the hype. Superhero movies have been great because directors and writers are able to instill drama into them that is believably human.

Joss Whedon does it on grand scale with multiple egos, and yet, every character is given ample screen time to voice their cause and resistance. Yearly 'top 10' films are usually reserved for hard-hitting dramas with highly emotional performances but I think The Avengers deserves a spot.

It's rare to see great acting in a Sci-fi film and that's the main reason why I went to watch this. Jennifer Lawrence really pulls you into her dystopian world but I was treated with more than her good performance. I like Sci-fi, rad costumes, teenage violence, and this film delivers all that. Have you seen Black Sheep? If you have, then this is the aquatic version of it, go watch this now!

If you haven't then you'll like this but only if you turn your brain completely off. Embrace the over-the-top gore and awesome kindergarten dialog and you'll have a blast – and big laughs.

This is a Sci-fi gem from 1997 with an intriguing concept and well-told story. There are also a lot of beautiful shots so don't pass this one up.

Fans have been complaining about the franchise after the first Predator movie and then came the crap storm that was the Aliens vs. Predators movies. I thought this was balanced between action and suspense while giving the fans what they've been asking for; a Predator movie that doesn't suck, horribly.

The storyline transforms as much as the creature does. This turned out to be a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It's a must-watch for any horror or Sci-fi fans.

You can't go wrong with a comedy that's based in the 80's. It's like Oldschool with a time machine.

Mr. Nobody is a very cerebral film. It will make you wonder about the universe all the while showing you beautiful scenes of alternate love. I can't say that I fully understood it, but I like it enough.

It's bad enough there are loud teenagers holding their crying babies in the theaters. Downey and Paltrow yapping over each other adds more annoyance. Overall, it's a really fun movie and if you're a nerd, make sure to stay for the bonus footage after the credits.
