A bloody and fun ride but am I alone in thinking that there seemed to be too much unnecessary dialogue towards the end? I love this movie but I couldn’t help compare it to Inglourious Basterds. The escalation of that movie consistently went up but this one leveled out for a long time. No matter, it’s still crazy-good!

PS: Christoph Waltz always talks like he’s about to show you a magic trick.

The Dark Knight Rises

The way Christopher Nolan wants to end this unintentional trilogy is much more than I expected. Nolan has said that he was not thinking about a third Batman, after The Dark Knight. He wanted us to savor retirement as much as Bruce Wayne does and the way he concluded it here is absolutely satisfying.

DMT: The Spirit Molecule

Dark Shadows

There are so many scenes that do not matter and all of the funny parts are in the trailer. Depp creates a good relationship with the audience but not with the rest of the cast. Dark Shadows reminds us that creativity gets worse with age for some people. And by "some people," I mean Tim Burton.

The Darkest Hour

This is hilariously bad and I love to hate it! The atmosphere in the beginning is upscale as it takes place in a high-end office and then in a sexy club with beautiful, young people. Towards the end, it turns into a homeless version of Ghostbusters.

A Dangerous Method

Many of us guys have found ourselves in an "insane girlfriend" relationship before. Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) on the other hand, started banging his mentally ill patient. Good one, Carl!

A Dangerous Method is philosophical, behaviorally bizarre, and slow. What more could you expect from a film about two famous psychiatrists bantering back and forth about sex and relationships.

Detachment

This is heart-breaking but I can't help to always mentally pause and discredit how exaggerated it is. I guess I couldn't watch this without having my guard up because a film like Detachment will do that to you. It makes you not want to believe how screwed up everything is.

Let this also be a warning that this movie is not as hopeful and touching as the trailer portrays it to be. Prepare yourselves, emotionally.

The Descendants

The family dynamics between Clooney and his two daughters is kind of bizarre but really pleasant at the same time and it gets better as the film progresses. Going into the movie, I wasn't aware that there was going to be comedy. This film shows how humans thinking out loud can be a lot funnier than cracking jokes. It's a great movie and if you liked The Kids Are Alright, you're going to love this.

The concept in the beginning is pretty cool but things start falling apart after the first half. This lacked genuine scares and the ending did not fit with the story. It tricks you into thinking it's a horror so I don't recommend this.

The Debt

There is a bit of dead weight in this film as it cuts back and forth from past to present, slowly revealing the plot. As the mission moves forward, the living conditions get cramped, so does the film's tension. This is a great movie that isn't for a wide audience but should be enjoyed by both gals and guys.

The Devil's Double

Not easy viewing for everyone as the subject matter is harsh. I have a new-found respect for Dominic Cooper who plays dual roles that are polar opposites from each other. I'm not sure if this is accurately based on a true story when I was looking stuff up online but regardless, as a stand-alone movie, it has my recommendation.

Downfall

This movie scores high reviews but not here. In terms of film making, it is good. Here's where I start to get uneasy. This is about the final days of Hitler, his inner circle, his Nazis, and it crosses the line of trying to create sympathy for them as the end closes in. I know this movie isn't a pro-Nazi, but how in the hell can I ever feel any sympathy for them, like the film was asking for. This made me uncomfortable.

You never see Hitler's corpse but you do see gore on other, lower-ranked soldiers. This tells me that they're trying to keep his character sacred by not defacing him. Fuck that, deface Hitler! Might I add, I had to deal with all this for 2:30 hours. In conclusion, the film is done well but the presentation is questionable.

If you're expecting an action movie with car chases and random explosions, you won't get that here but you'll get something much better – substance. You'll get brooding intensity and raw, toe-to-toe confrontations with some great actors. Nicolas Winding Refn takes a very thin plot and turns it into an anti-cliché, arthouse action film.

This is also based off of a popular French comedy entitled The Dinner Game, which is also hilarious.
