One of the things I enjoy about a ghost movie is backstory and this one let’s it all out. Sure, it has a lot of horror stereotypes but you won’t catch yourself complaining too much. It follows through with the story enough for you to forgive the cliches and silly CGI.

Another brilliantly-cryptic film by Paul Thomas Anderson. Joaquin Phoenix puts on a performance of a lifetime. I strongly feel he deserves the Oscar over Daniel Day Lewis’ Lincoln. There’s a lot that can be taken away from this film.

Innocent, enchanting, and aware of itself enough to be funny at all the right moments. Some of Wes Anderson's previous films, minus The Fantastic Mr. Fox, have been more cerebral. Moonrise Kingdom comes more from the heart and it shows it big ways, even with his subtle style. A delight to watch.

If your girl wants to go see this movie, take her. Don’t worry, you’ll survive. It’s actually good and has solid performances by the entire cast. It’s not awe-inspiring and the stories about male strippers isn’t anything out of the norm. I would know because I’m a male stripper. Well, only me and my mirror know. Was that awkward? Sorry! Go watch the movie now, it will be a lot less awkward. Seriously, take your girl to go see this, you will get super laid for it.

This took six years to release because the director couldn’t make a version that’s less than three hours long. All that drama behind the scenes is not nearly as thick as what you’ll experience within this film. The acting is stellar and you’ll get a lot of it because the handful of actors each get enough screentime to emotionally erupt. The many layers of events are written on a large scale but wrapped around a plot that anyone can digest.

The first one was great and the second was utter crap. I had no expectations for this third sequel, especially when we find out that Will Smith is going back in time. A time travel story is very risky if not done right. With low expectations, I would have been content with just seeing those funny aliens again.

I did get my funny aliens and the human elements have also been dialed up. Smith and Brolin were fun to watch and they made a smart decision by not forcing a very old Tommy Lee Jones to play anything but a very old Tommy Lee Jones. Good fun!

Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress

  • 2009
  • Animation

Hey, I’m in the mood to watch a Japanimation and I loved Robotech as a kid so why not.

There are pop songs with lyrics such as “At my wink signal, dive into my chest. Pure heart, go and violate my exposed thighs...The limit is vague 1000%” (extra zero is not a typo). I wouldn’t normally poke fun at that because I’m sure it doesn’t translate over well but when the lyrics are shown on screen like karaoke, sung in broken english, and happening constantly – well, fuck them. As for characters, we have the male hero (who has the longest hair in the film) stuck in a love triangle with a woman and a girl who looks like she’s 10. The two girl's singing is also the key to defeating the alien invaders. There is a second movie in this series but I would rather chug bleach.

ULTRA HIGH SPEED ROMANTIC FOR YOU!
WE’LL ENJOY A DAY TODAY!

At midnight, in Paris, something happens to Owen Wilson. Time becomes magical but in an intellectual and historical way. There are a lot of characters and they're all amusingly funny, so this is easy to enjoy.

Midnight in Paris could have easily been a snobby film but Woody Allen pulls it off in a way that should be suitable for a ranged crowd. This film can fall under a lot of genres but I just have one thing to say about it. It's delightful.
